How Garden Stylist AI works

Rendering your own photo is not open yet. Today you can choose a photo, a space and a style and join the waitlist, and read the examples, plant tags and costs. Once rendering opens, it is planned to return a redesign and a plant list checked against RHS hardiness ratings, aspect and soil.

What do you give it?

Choose a garden photo, then select the space type and style. The space can be a back garden, front garden, small garden, patio, sloped garden or new-build plot. The style can be cottage, modern, Mediterranean, low maintenance or shade planting.

You can make these selections on the tool page and join the waitlist, because rendering is not open yet.

How are the plants checked?

Every plant on the site comes from a catalogue of 117 plants. For each one we read its RHS Find a Plant page and recorded the hardiness rating, light, soil, aspect and size. Each plant keeps a link to the page it came from and the date we checked it. USDA hardiness zones come from NC State Extension, for readers who use them.

We then re-read 30 of the plants independently against their source pages. That made 420 field checks, with 0 mismatches. A spot check of this size does not prove every entry is perfect, so each plant keeps its source link for you to follow.

When you give an aspect and soil, each plant is marked as suiting, borderline or to avoid for those conditions. The plant index shows every source, and you can see the marking on the north-facing plants page.

Where do the costs come from?

UK costs are ranges taken from named cost guides, which we read on 16 October 2026. Each cost row names the guides behind it. They are typical installed rates, not quotes, and your area and site access will change them.

What are the images?

Every image labelled AI generated example is a redesign of a free-licence stock photo of a real garden, made with an image model. The model was told which plants to use. The plant names under each image are the ones requested, and they do not confirm which species the image shows.

We reviewed each render against its original photo and rejected any that moved boundaries or buildings. We planned 42 renders from 14 photos. 7 were rejected on the first pass and made again with tighter instructions; 2 of those still failed and were dropped, which leaves the 40 approved renders on the site. They are impressions of a style, not planting plans.

Can I use it now?

Rendering is not available yet. You can browse the examples, plant tags and costs and choose a photo before joining the waitlist on the tool page.
